In May 2023, Hi-Tower was called in for an urgent slope stabilization project at 142nd Street & Anthony Henday Drive in Edmonton after a major slope collapse threatened the integrity of adjacent infrastructure. Partnering with Tetra Tech, our team worked swiftly to remove compromised materials, reinforce the slope, and implement long-term drainage solutions.

This two-phase project, completed in May and September, involved advanced geotechnical techniques, engineered slope reinforcement, and sustainable restoration efforts.

Project Scope & Engineering Solutions

Phase 1 (May – Emergency Stabilization)
○ Cleared debris & removed unstable material
○ Compacted and stabilized the exposed slope
○ Installed geo fabric, stapled in place for temporary reinforcement
○ Managed water runoff that was seeping into the foundation

Phase 2 (September – Long-Term Stabilization)
○ Removed temporary geo fabric and introduced a more robust solution
○ Installed geo grid reinforcement to provide engineered slope stability
○ Redirected water runoff from the roadway to prevent future erosion
○ Constructed a concrete-piped swale with limestone to efficiently drain water away from the slope
○ Completed restoration by covering the slope with straw matting and hydroseeding to promote natural regrowth
